Cold Air Anesthesia

Zimmercryo5

Restylane

In a scientific study, “Cold Air Anesthesia in Dermasurgery” by Philip Hughes, M.D., reported in Dermatology Times and Dermatologic Surgery, Restylane and Juvederm dermal filler injections are more comfortable with cold air anesthesia combined with topical LMX5 numbing cream. With this combination, there is no need for injectable nerve blocks (dental blocks). This is a significant advance in patient comfort, safety and satisfaction. In adition, the injections are more accurate since patient facial mobility remains normal. The cold air is provided by a German “Zimmer Cryo 5” cold air machine which delivers air at -34 degrees Centigrade.

The Zimmer Cryo 5 is also used for anesthesia and epidermal protection during pulsed dye laser treatments of port wine stains and hemangiomas. It may also be used as anesthesia for some surgical procedures like skin tag excision. It has made Sculptra injections (for facial volume) more tolerable.
