ABCD Rules for Melanomas & Mole Management
LOOK FOR DANGER SIGNS IN PIGMENTED LESIONS OF THE SKIN
Consult Dr. Hughes immediately if any of your moles or pigmented spots exhibit:
Asymmetry: one half unlike the other half. |
![]() |
Border of the mole is irregular, scalloped or is poorly circumscribed. |
![]() |
Color varies from one area to another: shades of tan, brown, black, and sometimes white, red, or blue. |
![]() |
Diameter of the mole is larger than 6mm (diameter of pencil eraser). |
![]() |
MIND THESE ABCD’s – Any of the above may be signs of a malignant melanoma in a skin lesion or mole. Dr Hughes will perform a dermatoscope evaluation (using a device that “sees” through a mole) and decide if a biopsy if indicated!
